Adventures in Art is a series of thematic week-long sessions focusing on art-making through observation, imagination, materials and techniques.
Join us for up to 8 weeks to explore painting, drawing, clay and more! Explore art materials and techniques! Discover art and artists! Encourage creativity and imagination!
Programs include all materials, snacks and outdoor recreation. Students bring their own lunch. Please dress for mess. Each student receives a free Adventures in Art t-shirt on the first day of each week-long program.

Brilliant, just brilliant, all week long. EVERYTHING will reflect, sparkle and shine with glitter, foil papers, “gems,” metallic paint, pencils and metallic pastels. Printmaking is fun with new projects in stamp printing, stencils, monoprints, relief printing, handmade books, note cards, marbled paper and more. Learn how to make your own paper and create many fun projects using printing techniques on both fabric and paper.

Especially designed for this age group, this is a week of secular, mindful art with kid-friendly yoga poses, breathing-relaxation techniques, visualization and music listening. Creativity will be explored through charcoal, pencil and ink drawing, painting, suminagashi (Japanese paper marbling), collage, sculpture and mandala making. The instructor is both a yoga practitioner and artist. Students should bring a floor mat or blanket for yoga.

Printmaking fun with a twist. Included are projects in stamp printing, stencils, monoprints, relief printing, handmade books, marbled paper and more. Explore American folk art drawn from the tradition of Uncle and Aunt Sam with motifs of stars and stripes. Are you curious and enthusiastic about photography? Learn all about the 35mm camera and how to develop your photographs in a darkroom. Make some fantastic frames for your new photos and create fun photograms, create and use your own pinhole camera, sun prints and photo-collages. Bring a 35mm camera if you have one; if not we will provide one for you to use in class. The cost of film and photo paper is included.

Study basic drawing elements including line, shading, texture, form, composition. Explore a variety of media including pencils, charcoal, black ink and pastels. Create a process portfolio of abstract, still life, figure and landscape drawings. Every student will be given a portfolio case to hold their work.

Jewelry/Metalsmithing for Teens YP78SU13
Learn basic metal working techniques to create jewelry and mini sculpture. Saw, hammer, fold, twist, cut, stamp, rivet, solder and shape copper sheet metal and wire. Students will use hand tools to manipulate metal and a torch (one-on-one with instructor) to make metal malleable and solder pieces together as needed. Two and three-dimensional forms will be explored, including organic pods, leaves, spheres, circles, etc.

COURSE INFORMATION
Please enroll by June 10. All classes have limited enrollment. You can register NOW by mail or on our website. You may also register by telephone or in person at CAW between 9 and 5, Monday through Friday. A $3.00 handling charge will be applied to all registrations. All registrations will be processed in the order in which they are received. Please note that your place in a class is only secured with the receipt of your payment. The decision to cancel a class which does not meet its required minimum enrollment is made as close as possible to a week before the class begins. Students are only notified if a class is full or canceled. It is expected students will regularly attend all classes for which they are registered.

The Workshop periodically documents classes through still photography and video for publicity purposes. Registration in a course at CAW includes permission to photograph you and/or your artwork and to use your image in its publicity materials unless you inform the photographer that you do not wish to have your photograph taken. If you do not want CAW to photograph your child, please notify us at the time of registration.
Cell Phone Policy
Your child is welcome to bring a cell phone to CAW programs to use during breaks. However, for everyone's maximum enjoyment, we ask that the phones be turned off and put away. Otherwise, the instructors will collect them at the beginning of each day. Parents can always reach their child by calling the CAW front desk at 203.562.4927.
