Painting from Nature DP16SP12
Painting the landscape is notorious for its challenges of changing light and overwhelming detail. But all the great landscape painters have ultimately developed their own solutions to this task. Let's take a page from their book and zoom in to slowly build on our own experiences. We will focus on such topics as: clouds and sky; trees and leaves; grass/ground/rocks, flowers; houses and buildings, water and reflections. Each session, students will bring their own outdoor sketches and photos from which to work, developing them into full-color studies. Students will address issues such as light and shadow; variations of distance, texture, scale and palette. As the weather warms and our confidence develops, we will make field trips to a nearby locale to complete one full color painting outdoors and put our methods to the test. All color media welcome - oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, color pencil, etc. Prior drawing and painting experience will be helpful.
