11th Annual Bowl-A-Thon
On November
18, 2007, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, CAW Studio Potters,
faculty, and students will work with the Community Soup Kitchen
and other local businesses to help fight hunger.
The public is
invited to visit the CAW Pottery Studio between 1:30 and 5:00
pm to take part in this charitable event. Make a donation
and receive a beautiful handcrafted mug or bowl filled with
hearty soup and fresh baked bread. Proceeds benefit the Community
Soup Kitchen. Suggested donation levels are $15 for soup-sized
bowls and mugs, $10 for smaller items, and special items at
$30 and up.
CAW faculty and
students are encouraged to begin making bowls and mugs for this
year’s event so that it can continue to grow and raise even
more funds to help feed the hungry.
This annual event was the idea of CAW Studio
Potter Margie Haggerty, who based it on the Empty Bowls Project,
an international effort to fight hunger begun in 1991 by ceramic
artists. This event would not be possible without the dedication
of the Studio Potters and the work of CAW faculty and students.
Food for the 11th Annual Bowl-A-Thon was
generously donated by local merchants
including Anna Liffey’s, Atticus Bookstore/Cafe, Bruegger’s
Bagel Bakery, Edge of the Woods, The Whole Enchilada of New Haven,
Trader Joe’s, and the chefs of the Community Soup Kitchen.
BOWL-A-THON 2006
The 10th Annual Bowl-A-Thon, which took
place on November 19, 2006, raised a record $9,095 for The Community
Soup Kitchen, a non-profit agency that provides free, nutritious
meals to anyone in need. In recognition of their continuous
efforts, the Community Soup Kitchen honored CAW Studio Potters
with a Soup Ladle Award for ten years of raising money
to feed the homeless.
BOWL-A-THON 2005
On November 20,
2005, CAW Studio Potters, faculty and students joined forces with
the Community Soup Kitchen and other local businesses to help
fight hunger. The public was invited to visit the CAW Pottery
Studio between 2-5pm to take part in this annual charitable event.
More than $5000 was raised through the sale of hand-crafted bowls
and mugs.
BOWL-A-THON 2004
On November 21, 2004, the CAW Studio Potters
donated their time and energy to help fight hunger during the
holiday season through the 8th Annual Bowl-A-Thon. In 2004, the
Bowl-A-Thon raised almost $7,000, all of which was donated to
the Community Soup Kitchen. Judie’s Bakery and the Community
Soup Kitchen generously provided the delicious bread and soup,
and Dave O’Sullivan, Director of the Community Soup Kitchen,
helped make this annual event happen.
